Bus customers can soon pay for travel using their credit or debit cards on Opal readers.

From August 2019, contactless payments with credit and debit cards will be rolled out on Opal-enabled buses.

Can you use contactless on busses?

No problem. Secure contactless payments are now available on all of our buses. Paying with contactless is a simple and secure way to pay for tickets without cash. One tap of your contactless card, Apple Pay or Google Pay and you’re aboard and ready to go, no need to worry about having the right change.

Can you tap on with debit card on bus?

Contactless transport payments are currently being rolled out to all Opal-enabled buses in stages. If you tap with your credit or debit card you now receive the same fare and travel benefits of an Adult Opal card.

Can I use my debit card on Sydney buses?

If you have an American Express, Mastercard or Visa credit or debit card or a linked device, you can use it to pay for your travel by tapping on and tapping off at Opal readers. Contactless payments are available on metro, train, light rail and ferry services, and coming to bus services soon.

Can you PayWave on Sydney buses?

Commuters can now pay via PayPass or PayWave with American Express, Mastercard and Visa, or devices linked to these cards on all buses in the Opal network across Sydney, the Illawarra, the Southern Highlands, the Central Coast and the Hunter Region.
